Unsolicited sales call from IFA re: HMRC mortgage assistance

Just received an unsolicited call from an IFA (they mentioned their name, but I did not quite catch it at the time). They rang my office phone, so must have seen me on Linkedin. Anyway, usual bumph about am I about to purchase property, would I be interested in speaking with someone from their team about possible products they could introduce me to that might not be available to the man on the street, as it were. I listened for as long as I could be arsed, then swiftly and politely told them I wasn't interested and hung up.

Have any of you guys had this? The company he represented was "something" Partners, obviously, pretty generic. But the product he mentioned was something run by the HMRC that apparently 70% of the population are eligible for, but only a fraction bother to take it up. He was quite vague, but the basic jist of it was that you'd get a capital contribution towards your mortgage at a later date. It's probably just a government backed investment like a GILT or something. Sounds well dodgy, hence why I told him to do one.

HMRC aren't in the business of giving money, they normally want it from us! :D

Is it possible he was talking about the HCA? That's the government body responsible for wonderful housing policies like shared ownership and shared equity?

    My thoughts exactly.

Irks me that they can ring me at my place of business to harass me about products and have no interest in.

I should probably take myself off of Linkedin, I only signed up as I was hoping it might be useful for job opportunities, but so far all I seem to get is spam to my work email address from recruiters trying to get me to hire their people.

If you could remember the name of the firm, there's a specific rule in MCOB which prohibits cold-calling of mortgage products. You could have fun phoning the FSA to complain.

  • with the 1acc interest rate at now 4% got LTV 55% (in my case)...where else should I go...I am not on a 6 month fixed term contract, so doubt mortgage lenders would want me?

The Flexi from Nationwide seemed good, only to be mis-sold and got £190 from there.

Santander wouldn't touch with a Pacific length barge pole, ever again, had numerous compensation amounts form them £££s for months of hassle numerous times...current accounts, savings accounts, credit cards.

Not a fan of HSBC either, but First Direct are good.

Oddly phrased post in an oddly chosen thread.

So what is your employment situation?

Is this a purchase or remortgage?

Do you want another current account mortgage, offset, flexible, discount, tracker, fix?

How much do you want to borrow, as that indicates whether low rate/high fee or vice versa...?

They called me again today, despite me telling them to do one last time they rang.

The company is called Welbeck and a quick google search shows them to be a bit crap. I won't be taking them up on their offer.
