Scottish power debt

Options
Hello all, my first time posting here but really in need of some advice.

I have a debt with scottish power for my electricity bill. When i first moved into a house of my own, they were sending me estimated bills and i hadnt realised, when i finally gave them a meter reading i suddenly owed £450! I paid off what i could and got it down to £261. I then moved house and my new house has pre payment meters. They said they would take £1 a day off my meter to recover the remaining debt. This was months ago, back in July/August 2011.
Today i receive a letter to say i now owe £364! How on earth?

I gave them a call and the woman on the phone said i needed to top up a minimum of £7.10 a time onto the card. (No one ever informed me of this) and she said sometimes i had only put on £5. I didnt understand her explanation, but she concluded that i had really only been paying for what i was using and not the debt. But i monitor it regularly and notice the £1 come off each day.

I am gutted to have been paying it off for all this time, only to end up owing them more! Has anyone else ever been in a similar situation or able to shed any light on this? I feel i will never get this paid off!

Thank you much in advance,
Sophee x
