Free Grant Money?

Hi everyone,
I'm not sure whether this is the right place to post this.
Could someone tell me if there is a charity/trust or foundation which gives free grant money for an urgent surgical operation?
Is there anyone at all, worth writing to?
The amount needed to cover the operation is £4000.
Thanks!
All info is greatly appreciated.

Can't the NHS do it if it's urgent? Which country are you in?They say you can't put a value on life... but I live it at half price!0

There's a difference between 'urgent' and 'emergency'; an urgent case can be left on the waiting list for months. My Dad was 'on top of the urgent list' for 5 months while waiting for a quadruple coronary bypass, and nearly died during the wait - apparently he would have been classed as an emergency and had immediate surgery if he'd had a heart attack during the 5 months. When his turn came for the op, he had to ring to see if an intensive care bed was available - but there wasn't, so he had to wait another few weeks for another slot. He didn't have the £12,000 needed to go privately.
OP - I think you're looking for miracles if you think there's anyone out there who'd offer a grant for an operation, but good luck, anyway.0 -
Thankyou very much for your replies.
Yes NHS can do it, but the waiting list is over 6 months and this is urgent in the sense that the medical problem is affecting someone's quality of life quite severely.
Yes I suppose I was looking for a miracle of some sort. I guess it's crazy that some people have literally millions of pounds going spare, especially trusts and charities.
Thanks anyway! I guess now the decision must be made whether a Bupa operation is the way forward even if it means being out of pocket.
All the best.0 -

It's a long shot, but you could try sending a letter to your local MP see if they would be interested in a bit of positive publicity and could perhaps put in a good word to hurry things along. Mention you will also be contacting the local papers to look for support.

CW's advice is good - our local paper often carries front-page stories of some poor soul who is in agony or housebound just because they are low down on the list - and the results are often worth the effort.0
