Fancy Dress!

A close friend of mine has decided to celebrate her birthday by having a fancy dress party.
I love fancy dress partys, But i always seem to have boring costumes.
Im sure there will be a variety of costumes from army people to cave girls. I want to go all out with my costume.
I was just wondering if anyone has any great costume ideas and cheap places where i can buy a costume from?

I always think the best fancy dress costumes are the homemade ones. They often work out cheaper too! Why not have a look in your wardrobe and see if you already have anything you can theme your costume around by either modifying it a bit or buying a few cheap accessories.
Is there a theme to the party? Will you be going by yourself or with a partner/friend. Couple costumes often look good. Costumes that have a 'current' theme often work well too as people will easily guess what you've come as. How about something to do with the Olympics or the Queen's Jubilee? Is there anything on telly that you or your friends are particularly into at the moment? I'm think Big Fat Gypsy Weddings or similar.
If you don't have anything at home to use, most indoor markets seem to have a fancy dress stall these days and you can often pick up cheap accessories in the pound shops that are intended for kids or hen/stag parties.

Other than going as a ghost by using white bed sheets i dont think i have anything i could use unfortunately.
I'll be going wtih a group of friends.. One is going as a nun, one as little bo peep, one as little miss muffet. So havent really got a partner to go with.
I was thinking maybe an avatar? although im not sure how to do this to a good standard.. Blue body paint obviously.. but not sure about the rest of it. Any ideas?0 -
I went out as Avatars with a uni society last year. We wore normal clothes, with lots of blue coloured paint, then a lighter blue to contrast it and diamantes. Looked really good I think
Then Poison Ivy last week, for Superheroes and SuperVillains
Even dyed my hair ginger

Maybe you could go as Medusa. if you've got white sheets you could create a toga type dress from them. Buy some rubber snakes for your hair and apply some smokey eye make up. Simple, cheap but would look good.
If you've got the funds you could always buy some funky coloured contacts maybe grey, green or red.
Enjoy your party whatever you decide to go as:beer:For thousands of people this Christmas, their must-have gift is far more vital than the latest gadget or toy – it’s blood. Please don’t let the festivities and cold weather prevent you from giving them the ultimate gift… give blood.0
