Please help me!!!!!

Dont know if I am putting this on the right forum, please feel free to move if needed.
To cut a long long long story short, my husband has walked out on me and cancelled all the direct debits including the mortgage!!
i know i am still liable as it is in joint names.i have phoned the mortgage company and briefly they have said i have 2 options.
1... I can take a payment break of up to 6 months and then after that the mortgage will be re calculated
2.... i can go interest only(no other details at this time about this)
My main question is as we have a son together, does he have to let me stay in the house until he is 18 he is 3 now.I know I will have to pay the mortgage now and after any desision is made by solicitors, but I would rather sell now if it is not likely I can stay in the house, I have another son of 10 from a previous marriage.
sorry for the waffle
can anyone help please i am at wits end with worry

Oh, you poor thing, as someone who was also walked out on in similar circumstances years ago I do empathise.

I think you'll find that providing you can afford to keep the mortgage going that your husband can't force you to sell the house untill your son is 16 or leaves full time education.

You don't say what your circumstances are, whether you work or not, but if you are on a low income/benefits & qualify for income support then you will probably qualify for help in paying the mortgage interest payments as an abandoned wife with a young child. This means you won't have to wait the qualifying 39 week waiting period that is a normal condtion to get help with mortgage interest.

If you can make an appointment to see a welfare rights advisor as soon as possible, they should be able to find out all & any help you can apply for. The cab are good for this, but often local authorities have welfare rights workers too, so check with your local council.

Hugs won't pay the bills or make everything ok for you, but I'm sending you a big one just the same.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
