Ok, we all know these guys are parasites who pick on vulnerable people chasing debts which either do not exist or are statute barred hoping they will scare enough people into paying with pathetic scary letters and phone calls,

They have pursued us for years, hundreds of letters for a debt that does not exist, I've given up trying to reason with them so I just ignore them now, NOTHING ever happens!

So my questions are as follows,

1. Has anyone actually EVER been to court
2. Have they EVER sent a debt collector to a property
3. How many times have they been in trouble with the authorities and why are they still allowed to harass and upset people

They must read these forums, hello scumbags:j

Don't give in to these low life's people, they are the lowest of the low!

    1. Lowells have been issuing bankruptcy petitions on some debts lately, so for them the answer is yes. Sometimes not doing the paperwork properly, so the first thing a person knows is that they get a letter through the door from the court saying they have been made bankrupt.

CCJ by them? Not very likely at all. I struggle to remember any.

The chances of court action by any of them are still very low, despite that. Especially MH.

Some other debt collectors are far more litigious. Link, Cabot, even Worst Credit sometimes for example.

    2. I recall (I think) some examples where contracted doorstep collectors do call. But the % of cases where that happens compared to the number of threats of the same must be tiny.

    3. Of the ones you mention, surprisingly few. I wonder if the OFT is saving them up for a rainy day? ;) MH have been sanctioned. http://www.oft.gov.uk/news-and-updates/press/2009/44-09

They are genuine companies, although their methods are often disgraceful.

A DD is a bad bad idea. Debt collectors often abuse those to take more than they should.

Standing order or send payment by post only. That way you control what gets paid and when.

  • hi there,

I received a letter off Mackenzie Hall today. I have never heard of them and with my life being as regimental as it is I know I have no outstanding debts.
I tried to call them in order to ask for furhter information about the debt as their letter was very scary and they kept asking about personal information such as my address, date of birth.... so i didnt want to give them any personal information untill they provide me the proof of the debt. As you can image, they hang up the phone and they pretend that they cant hear me so finnaly i couldnt get any information and my wife and i are quite scared that they will come up to our house.
I have been writing about Mackenzi hall online and they dont have very nice reputation.

I'd be grateful if you could help us to get through this situation.
    thanx

any chance you could quote what is in the letter?

I have NEVER heard of them following through their pathetic threats so please don't worry. There are lots of letter templates on this site you can use, the onus is on them to prove the debt,

Do some research is my advice:)

    hi there,
yes sure, they are saying that i have a debt xxx to the O2 tld (original creditor) and the O2 sold the debt to the lowell and then the lowell sold this debt to the Mackenzie hall but no more info and I never used O2 in addition that i have been using Tmobile since 2005.
I'll send them a formal letter about the further information about the the debt (Use sections 77, 78 and 79 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 to ask the original signed credit aggreement) hope it works.
    finger cross
    many thanx for ur respond

    DON'T.

The consumer credit act doesn't doesn't apply to mobile contracts.

If you have to send anything then please us the letter in this link as a basis.

Adding that you have never had an O2 account.

Please also remove the amount they are after from your post, in case they are reading.

Their so called "deadlines" are meaningless. Just made up by them to try and scare you. Ignore them, and send what you need to.
