Best washing machine

Hi

Need to replace our washing machine. Ideally pay 200 or less, but could be open to suggestions. What should I buy? PS in case anyone wants to factor in cost to run, our hotwater comes from a combi.

cheers

  • Hot water from a combi always takes about 30-60 seconds to heat up properly from cold, so I wouldn't fuss about a washer with a hot water inlet - by the time the warm water gets to the washer it'll be full.

With a budget of £200, you're not going to get a long lasting machine. If you can afford it, get a cheap Bosch. I've seen a £250 run for 5 years, and all it's needed so far was a new door seal because the owner took too much washing out in one go!

Cheapest Bosch or Aeg even if it is more than your budget.

AEG, Tricity Bendix and Zanussi are all part of the Electrlux group I believe.

Another vote for Bosch at that price. Look out for promotions such as the Comet rewards club or whatver it is called - if you sign up on line you will get a £5 discount off your next large purchase (every little helps, right?!)

BTW most washing machines are cold-fill only these days.
  • I read on a site by a w/m expert, mrwasher or something, that it is better (in terms of reliability) to buy the cheapest/lowest spec of a better brand than the most expensive of the cheaper brand as the basic build quality within a brand is basically the same and you're just paying for the bells and whistles.

This is the cheapest Bosch I found at my local appliance store. It comes with 2 year warranty.

I also noted the cheapest Siemens which comes with a 5 year warranty and currently has a £50 trade in promotion. I think it's about £430 which would take it down to £380.

We have just bought an LG Direct Drive sooo quiet.

Anyway have a look on Pricerunner the cheapest one that catches my eye is a Hotpoint Aquarius @ £222.

The first Bosch is the Bosch WAE24060FF @ £270 (prob a good buy)

The first LG is the LG F1206ND @ £272

If you push your budget up to £300 then you open a choice of some well regarded models.

If you buy more than 1 appliance some retailers will do a deal.

Hi: our LG has just given up the ghost. After disassembling the machine for diagnosis and determining it was beyond economical repair the OH conducted the autopsy ...broken 'spider' on the back of the drum (also needed a door seal). It has served us well for the last 10 years and thousands and thousands of loads.

A replacement LG is on order.....

If budget can stretch to that I would go for that. The 5 year warranty is full parts and labour. if not a Bosch at around £270 with two years warranty seems OK and I would think on balance likely to be better than any rebadged Chinese tat that will be in the sub £200 category
  • Looking myself for a good one too, came across this Bosch on Pricerunner at £249.99 (+ delivery) http://www.appliancesdirect.co.uk/Bosch_Maxx_6kg_1200rpm_Freestanding_Washing_Machine_WAE24060GB/version.asp?refsource=apprunner

If you know someone who works for Siemens, you can get them to order via the Siemens 'my deals' portal and get a large discount + lifetime free parts/labour.
