How make your house look clean without much effort

I always make sure the rooms visitors are likely to go in are free of clutter, and the clutter is then put in a room they are less likely to go in like our bedroom as we live in a flat.
Hallway- chuck shoes in the shoe cupboard if their are any not put away grrrr, no carpet in hall way as its vinyl to match the kitchen as the hallway is linked to kitchen.
Kitchen-chuck pots in dishwasher to hide them lol quick swish and swipe of units and draining board, quickly wipe spots on the floor and sweep.
Front room-quick pick up carp and chuck in bedroom and wipe woth microfibre cloth - luckily have a great buiscuit carpet with different tones in it so you can't see if the carpet needs vacuuming.
Bathroom -chuck bleach down toilet and wipe seat and wipe surfaces in bathroom and tidy up bottles that havent been put back in the corner tidy.
Thats it, i can normally get this done in 30 mins lol and just before i answer the door i run around with air freshnerbefore i get to the door and put airfreshner down on the hallway table as i go to answer it.
sometimes if i remember i put oil in the oil burner before i start so by the time someone comes to visit the flat smells lush anyway.

The lazy way, in extremis, is to claim that you're in the middle of decorating and this is the reason why people can't come round right now. If that won't work, just keep them in the kitchen without enough chairs and get on with some chore that you're in the middle of. This will mean they don't stay long enough to need the loo0

Only clean the areas that show.
Air the house as much as possible, a fresh smelling room is almost as good as a clean one
Give rugs a shake out of the window rather than get the hoover out
Use a carpet sweeper instead of a hoover – much quicker to get out and put away, and lighter and quicker to use.
Use a feather duster for a quick clean of ornaments etc
For hard floors, don’t mop the whole floor just use a damp rag to wipe any dirty bits.
Turn a tablecloth over if you don't have a clean one handy.
Keep a tin of furniture polish open but out of sight, gives a just cleaned smell to the room
In bathrooms, just give the chrome and mirrors a quick wipe, as hard water stains look much more obvious there than on porcelain.
Put fresh flowers in a room. This will always make it look welcoming.
Use foam non-scrub cleaners for porcelain. These are expensive and don’t work as well as a proper clean but will do in an emergency.
To clean the loo, use a foam cleaner then just squirt bleach round the rim leave for a while and then flush.
Tidy rather than clean – a clean room with heaps of papers, clothes etc around still looks ‘dirty’; a tidy room with a little bit of dust is less obvious.
fresh flowers lol. Like we have money to go out and buy flowers all the time for a room.:footie:0 -
Every time I have to run around cleaning and tidying before a visitor comes I promise myself that I'm going to keep on top of the housework so the house is always ready for visitors. Of course I never keep my promise and next time I'm expecting visitors you'll find me running around like a blue-ar*ed fly chucking things in cupboards and frantically spraying polish.

I make exactly the same promise to myself!
Never stuck to it yet and everytime I feel more stressed by the unexpected visitors! Can I ever learn this budgeting lark? So far it's not looking promising

I've given up! You have to take me as you find me!
I do double check the lidded cat litter tray and loo are clean though. I think it's horrible if your guests get a nasty pong when they go to powder their nose, (litter tray is in the bathroom). When I go to cafes or pubs I always judge the whole establishment on the state of their loos iykwim.0 -
Yep, my flat is so full of clutter that most of the tips just don't work - not just the ones here! To make it easy to clean I'd have to get rid of most of my stuff and acquire about four more hours in the day. So it stays a tip
I do keep the kitchen surfaces clean, the washing up done and the bathroom relatively regularly wiped down. Hoover? It's here somewhere :rotfl:
Actually I would love to be more on top of things, but I just don't have time. A friend of mine jacked in her job a month or two ago and has just posted that she's bored, for the first time in her memory. I'm exactly the same. I post and read on here instead of doing things that I have to do - cleaning doesn't make it anywhere near that list
