Hi guys, been reading the forums for a while but never really joined in but i thought that somebody out there might be able to help me!
I've decided to take up golf this year, I've just turned 30 im now old enough
I have been having some lessons at a local club, and now im at a point of sorting out my own clubs.
From asking people it seems everyone has a different opinion - but does anyone have any advice on brands and any starter packages they've come across?
Looking to spend between £100-150 for everything to get me through my first summer of the sport.
any advice is a help. cheers.

Don't buy a new set aimed at 'beginners'; the kind argos sell with bag, putter, woods etc.
Go on ebay and buy a set of used clubs; irons only to start with, unless you're an exceptional beginner!
Look for 'unloved' brands such as MD, Benross or John Letters, and make sure they're suitable for new golfers; that probably means (a) cavity backs NOT blades (CBs are much more forgiving) and (b) regular NOT stiff shafts (you probably won't have the swing speed for stiff)
The quality of such clubs is infinitely better than the starter sets and will take you much further if (when!) you fall in love witht he game.0 -
I have just upgraded to Benross Gold , so I take strong exception to
' 'unloved' brands such as'
Otherwise r7otl posting is on the mark. But I would also ask around speaking to other golfers, most of us have older sets gathering dust in the garage/loft.
ps ebay is wonderful , but look for collection only offers near you , bags/clubs are a pain to wrap and post , so many just want to get rid of them as easily as possible.
pps OP was posted weeks ago , I wonder what they did.0 -
'Unloved' was probably the wrong word! Brands that don't hold their value second-hand is probably a better way of putting (no pun intended) it.
Ping/TaylorMade/Callaway etc probably hold a much higher % of their value than the brands I mentioned; It'll give cardiff001 better VFM.0
