I'd be inclined to ignore the first letter, and then if Hillesden send another, then forward them the 'I have no knowledge of this debt' letter, and see what comes back from that. Probably nothing will.
Any letters you send to anyone acting for Royds, do NOT sign, and always send via recorded delivery.
Royds are hopeless at dealing with current accounts, much less older ones, so I think contacting Royds about the matter is a waste of time.
Besides, if six years have gone without a payment or written admission of debt, then it's statute barred anyway.0 -
Sorry about that Micke. But in these circumstances I believe you have taken the easiest and most effective way out of your difficulties. There is no point getting worked up, or wasting time/postage corresponding about a debt that can't be enforced.
Unfortunately there are too many unscrupulous chancers in the debt collection industry who are prepared to try and hound people for uncollectable debts- but only if you play their game by responding to them!0 -
I presume you abandoned the account after what you refer to as the 'bogus transaction' and that you have some letters showing the dates. Once you're six years past that date there is a very simple response to any court claim (statute barred).
Until that time there is a risk (probably slim) that Hillesden, as the owners of the account, will start a court claim. But I think you have the right strategy here. Hillesden do occasionally take court action but are not likely to do so on a small account with someone who is not engaging with them.0 -
Thank you all. once again for your advice and comments. I think the last poster, fatbelly has it in the bag. I do have the original letters, and come October this year, it will become statute barred and then they can go sing.
FTW, you too, are right. Lloyds are useless at handling the accounts they have now, so past accounts have no chance.
All in all, thank you all for the comments and the advice.
Will keep you posted if anything comes of it in the future.
