Moorcroft debt agency...

Options
First of all im sorry if not posting in right place,

and hello and please don't judge me....

I got into alot of debt few years ago i was young naive and silly!!!
i just took everything that was offered to me and not thinking of future...

so fast forward to now and i want to sort life out and become debt free, I had 8 debt all together 4 of which was £200 odd so they gave me a settlement figure and i took that then 2 was quite high but let me pay £20 each per month intil lowered then hopefully in a year i can do a settlement on them.. fingers crossed

So thats my explaining im really trying to get out of a debt life, now to the problem

MOORCROFT!!
They ring me 10 times a day - maybe more somedays, they have took on 2 of my debts, sadly each is £1000! i've offered £15 each per month (due to my paying my other 2 debts and general house hold bills etc it is all i can afford right now) and they keep refusing, they want me to pay £43 each a month and wont even talk to me about going any lower and in my opinion quite rude with each phone call. I tried a letter and a postal order to them to offer a payment as i read that phone calls are sometimes not great and a letter is best, and they just send postal order back to me and a letter saying we cannot accept?
this as been going on a year now.

anyone else have issues or any advice.

    Hi.

You are right it is best to deal with them by letter. First off you might want to send the the telephone harrasment letter to get them to stop calling - template here - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=11571485&postcount=4

Now before you contact them again, you say you ran up these debts a few years ago - when was the last time you paid anything to the original creditor or a debt collector in relation to the debt held by moorcroft? if you never paid the creditor anything, when did the debt start (ie when did you borrow the money)? What did these debts relate to (were they loans/ credit cards / overdraft? or what)?

thankyou for reply, i started paying the creditor very well for about a year, then alot of stuff in my life happened and i rang explaining and they said they couldnt reduced payments, at the time they said paying something is always better than nothing, so i payed £10 a month, then realised on my statments they was putting more interest on than what i was paying (naivly i thought if i was paying something then i be okay) then i totally missed a couple of payments and they wanted me to pay £298 or something like that, then thats when i got silly and thought if i just shread letters all my troubles would go away! and eventually got letters from moorcroft taking those 2 debts on, and that was where it all began.

    both catalogues - sadly

the other 2 im paying off is my old bank credit card and overdraft, i moved banks to one that i asked not to have any overdraft, then started paying off the debt to my old one - but those are being okay right now they happy with repayments.

How old are these debts ?
Please put a time scale on when you ran up the debts and when you started re-paying.
You may not owe them anything.

  • the catalogues was opened 4 years ago, (both jd williams and got 2 at same time)
spent 1 year paying regular (but using them at the same so wasn't reducing just keeping up with regular payments) then spent about 10 months paying £10 on each instead of the ususal £33 then when i missed 2 of the £10 payments i got a bill for around £300 each which i couldnt pay so asked them close my account and could i pay a reduced payment which they said they couldnt do as owed them so much then, i ignored their letters (i know i was silly to do so) then about 10-11 months ago got a letter from moorcroft who i rang and offered them £15 per debt per month and they refused (they got my number from that call) and since then the letters and phone calls have got silly, i recently started a new job (ence me now in situation to sort my debts out) and i have phone on me just incase my childrens schools ring so look at my phone when feel it vibrate - and its getting ridiculous.
  • is there anyway i can pay any less to them? i forgot to add i sent in my financial situation of my ins and outs and that doesn't seemed to had changed there minds - as i have £120 spare a month they seem to think they should have it all?
