Credit report - linked financial associates

Options
Hi everyone, I checked my credit reports yesteray with all 3 agencies and noticed on Experian that my husband and I were linked (probably due to joint insurance policies).

Does this mean we now share each others credit history/score?

I've always said no to getting a joint bank a/c etc as I didnt want to bring his credit score down as i've previously had an IVA, and i'm worried that his score will now be rubbish if he is linked to me :(

It means that if you apply for credit lenders will look at his report as well when making a decision. And vice versa.

It doesn't actually affect the credit score you can buy from experian, that is still based just on your file (another reason why its not worth buying).

If you have no open joint credit accounts then you can file a notice of disassociation on the experian website (only 1 of you needs to complete it).
If you have a joint insurance policy that you are paying for on a credit agreement (that shows on your file) then you won't be able to do the disassociation.

  • Thanks Tixy, we do pay monthly for our building/contents/life insurance so I guess we are on a credit agreement.
