Perhaps your husband could also look at a slightly cheaper bike? A quick search on Autotrader came up with four motorbikes under £500 in the North Kent/SE London area....
Well done on the steps so far. While you are clearing for the boot sale, do an inventory of stuff - kitchen cupboards, bathroom cupboards, etc. You might find you can massively reduce your expenditure for a month when you see how much you have in and try to use it up creatively!
Best wishesSome days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

He has been looking for a bike for a while now and although his office is close as previously stated, he has to cross the Dartford bridge, so can't do this on a bicycle unfortunately.
As he is not really a bike expert, we are a bit worried about buying a bike from any random person on the internet. But the person he wants to buy the bike from is a friend of mine through work, someone I trust and I know will go out of his way to correct anything that goes wrong...if something were to go wrong. With the bike, he is also getting a leather jacket - which I know isn't a lot, but it is one less thing we have to buy!
On a lighter note, I went to collect the dog food today and as I shopped online, I was given a discount voucher for my next purchase :T0
