advice on debt repayment
i'm posting this for a friend who's wife as just died,and he is now opening her letters and finding to his horror that she had a lot of debt,so far it's credit card and store cards.The amount so far is close to £15000.He had no idea about this,he's on a low income and with the funeral costs now as little savings.Is he liable to pay these debts?He owns the house,his wife was not on the deeds.

No, he's not liable. If the debt was only in her name, then they can only be settled from any assets/estate she leaves. He won't be chased for anything outside of that.
Best to give the details to the Executor of the estate to deal with appropriately.0
