Joining a union to use immediately?

A family member has got a real issue going on at the moment and needs serious help but they are not a member of a union.
I know it's not an ideal situation but does anyone have any advice?
A lot of unions he's contacted have said he needs to be a member for x amount of time before they can do anything.
Does anyone know of any who are willing to take members on and help straight away?
Thanks

No, but he can go to the CAB and get free help from them.0

The idea behind unions is you join, pay subs and they are there if you need them.
It's not like an insurance policy that you take out after an accident.0 -
No. It depends what industry your FM works in - they will need to join the appropriate union not just any union. That union may still be willing to provide advice if not representation.0

Thanks he's been to the CAB and has further appointment with an employment specialist but it's not for another 3 weeks.0

What is the problem?0

If it is legal advice that he needs, tell him to check his home insurance as this may be included.
Once the problem is sorted, I suggest he joins a union for future protection. It's a monthly payment that you pay and hope never to use, but there is you do need them. There are, of course, other benefits of joining a union as well.0
