New Job Advice?

Hello everyone, I'm looking for some help and advise......

Be on JSA now for the last 8 months, and it is really hard out the. However my advice to everyone is to keep pushing! Rejections are HARD, but you must keep you chin up.

Right.....I have been offered a FANTASIC job opportunity, and they want me to start next week. Which I could not be happier with, however here is my problem. It requires travelling, and a lot of it.

1. In order to start my job I need to have a few jobs done on the car.

2. Monthly paid job, which means the first month will be hard.

JSA < Told me I am NOT entitled to anything (back to work help) even a clothing allowance.

Is there a grant scheme or anything available to HELP people get back into work? without some help, regretfully I will have to turn the job down, which I dont want to :(

Loans/credit cards etc < I can't do.

I hope someone can help me? or point me to someone that might be able to?

Many thanks

Jay

to the company, tell them your situation and if they want you that badly they will help you.

Is there no one who can lend you the money or borrow a car? Daily car rental can be cheap as chips from easyjet or something perhaps!

Are you able to give us slightly more info on why loan/credit card is out of the question? We don't need all the juicy details, just a little bit more. Is increasing your overdraft temporarily also impossible? What about borrowing from family?

It would seem a huge shame if you had to turn down the job. Especially as surely the situation will only get worse the longer you wait for work? The car will still need work, and JSA won't be enough to fix it.

Is the problem getting to work, or does the actual job involve driving? If it's that you need to car to DO the job not just to get to it, maybe you could talk to the company. It would seem a small thing for them to potentially lose you over, so perhaps they can give you some advice.

Loan/cards < I have default payments. Since redundancy I could not keeo up with payments. So I would not get excepted for one.

All in all I need £500, that would get my car fixed, and few things I need for the job. (clothing)

Borrowing money friends/family.....Not really, not many who would have this to borrow.

JSA < can give upto £300 for tooling etc. things for the job, but I was told I do not qualifie.

I do need the car for work.....credit/insurance wise I would not get a loan car

It just seem mad with the JSA what they can/will help with. They say you can get a clothing allowance unless you get a direct offer for the job, yet a lot of people require this help before hand. Just seems backwards

Is £500 really the absolute minimum with charity shop clothing for a month only?

How much could you scrape together by selling things you don't really want to sell? Like the TV.

If you borrowed the money for one month could you repay it the next? This may be one of the few situations where it is worth exploring a payday loan.

Your company might be willing to pay you half your salary mid-month if that would help.

Take the job no matter what, something should come up money wise to help you until your first pay.

    Good luck and well done
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun
  • I don't really have anything to sell, sounds daft.....but I don't have anything lol

All my money over the years has been spent on kids, house etc. I could not justifie selling house hold stuff.

Job < Don't want to turn it down, really hard company to get in with too......and has a great long term potential.

I have raised £100.....should be able to get £150, I was REALLY REALLY hoping to get some help from the JSA, even a short term borrow.

I don't wish to open a can or worms, but the JSA process, especially assisting with finding work in poor. They talk to me, but never provide assistance. Maybe its just my centre

Perhaps you can use that £150 to do the absolute essentials to the car. Forget about clothes, for the first month you can wear the same trousers everyday and alternate betweeen the shirts you have. If you have absolutely nothing suitable, borrow some clothes from someone else. Check the charity shops, they're pretty good for workwear. Go to tescos or asda, you can get the basics very cheaply. Put an ad on Freecycle.

You say you can't justify selling household stuff, but you have to think about the longer term. Sell some stuff now, and in a month or so you'll be able to re-buy whatever it was. Plus you'll have a great job, which will be far more beneficial to your family in the long run.

  • THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!

I've had many jobs - but really happy I got offered this - hard process 8 stages, and got called yesterday saying well done, we need you here this date :)

Can anyone advise the best place to advertise motor cycle equipment for sale? done ebay, gumtree etc. I just need to pepper it across the web lol if they sell happy days :)

Agree you have to do what it takes too - I've got 3 (friends) cars coming over the weekend who are paying me to valet there cars too for some extra £. (Very OCD with car cleaning lol)
