Help bankruptcy advice

Hi there

i am in the process of petitioning for my own bankruptcy and i am so confused over what to do about filling in the forms. I have been told not to do it myself as its too difficult but i dont want to pay someone £700 to do it for me or i would not be going bankrupt. I just dont know what to do. Is it a bad idea to fill the forms in myself and do everything myself.

  • Who says it is too difficult to fill them in and ou need to pay someone? You certainly don't.

If you have taken advice form the debt charities on BR then they will help you with the forms. If you post questions on here there is usually someone who can help you. If you ring the court then the BR clerk can usually help as well. All for free :)

Have a look at the first post on the Bankruptcy Help sticky there is a list of debt charities and also some links to filling the forms in. Plus a ton of other useful stuff.

There's absolutely no need to pay a company to fill in the forms for you. With help from CCCS/CAB/National Debtline, and also the guys on here you'll be just fine

    Have you sought professional advice?

  • The forms are mostly self explanatry, make sure you have a note first of all your debtors, amounts you owe, account numbers, addresses and dates. This I found to be the most time consuming part. I also found that when it comes to writing your reasons for BR it helps to have these debts in cronological order, focused my thoughts and helped me explain things.

It took me over a week just to write my reasons  but thats because I'm a bit anal and wanted it to be just perfect :D but I'm sure most others dont take that long!

Just do a page or 2 at a time, dont let yourself get bogged down with completing it all in one sitting, its too much.

Good luck, and as the others have said come here and ask ANY questions, I couldnt have done it without everyones help on this forum :A

  • Thanks for your helps guys. I actually contacted CAB a few minutes ago and they are going to help me with the forms tomorrow. What a sigh of relief.
Does anyone know if payday loans are a problem at all. When our hassles started after my husband got made redundant we look out loads of payday loans just to pay our mortgage and the rest and they have piled up. I have like 10 of them and I am not joking. Will the courts want to know why i got so many of them.

hi..the Court won't...but the OR will no doubt enquire of you........however, no need to worry, as what you describe is pretty much 'normal' behaviour of those who are suddenly plunged into a debt crisis....desperately trying to keep things going, etc.

Although many of us have simply survived off ever increasing credit card balances..getting nowhere in the process.

There is a world of difference between knowing one is insolvent, and must petition BR.....and not realising ...or admitting.....one is insolvent, and should petition BR.

Nobody sits in judgement [apart from the occasional troll on here?]............so don't worry...you are finally dealing with your debts, equitably.

    Well done.
