Equidebt agree statute barred but still asking for payment

I recently had a letter from Equidebt chasing for money. I knew this debt was statute barred but was a little worried as the original company chasing it was Aktiv Kapitol. I had advised Aktiv Kapitol that the debt was statute barred and had heard no more until i received the letter from Equidebt. I wrote to them advising that, as i had advised Aktiv Kapitol, this debt is statute barred and enclosed copies of correspondence sent to AK. Today i have received a letter from equidebt stating

"Please be advised we have investigated your account and can confirm that the debt is statute barred. However, please note that you do have a moral obligation to repay the outstanding balance.

We refer to your recent letter and confirm that we are willing to accept the sum of £38.44, in full and final settlement of your liability.

This settlement figure has only been offered on the condition that full payment is received by the 28th February 2012. You should note that failure to maintain this agreement will result in the balance reverting to £256.29" blah blah blah.

What do i do? Can they do this? I thought statute barred was done and dusted end of?
