Hi guys, I'm a newbie so go easy!!!
Hope this is the right section of the forum?
Anyway, over the last few months I have received several letters for a person who seems to be using my address as a way to hide from debt collection agencies. As far as I am aware, they aren't on the electoral register for my address, however I am checking with my local office as we speak. This person owes a lot of money to various agencies and I'm a little worried that a ccj or similar could be issued agsinst my address, is this true?
I am contacting these agencies asap to tell them she doesnt live here but they continue to flow through my letterbox!!!
Any help appreciated!!

Out of interest how do you know what the letters are about? "interfering" with the Royal Mail is an offence, why not just mark them "Gone away" and pop them into a letter box, if there is a return address the mail will return them, if not I think they are destroyed, but they should not be opened unless addressed to you!0 -
No reason not to open the letters - you have a reasonable right to find out what's afoot in matters relating to your home.
All that stuff about interfering with the Royal Mail really only applies if you pinch the postman's sack.
Now that you know the name to look out for, you could mark them 'not known' and put them in a letter box.
May not help a lot because lots of debtors try to wrong-foot creditors by pretending to be living elsewhere.
It means extra work, but I would contact a few of the senders and try to get the word about that this person is misusing your address.
Believe it or not, I've heard some reports of creditors being grateful to people who update then in this way.0 -
opening other peoples mail is an offence as far as iam aware. best thing is just put not at this adress and pop back in box.James tucker

This recent thread may shed some light on the legality of opening post not addressed to you. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

hi...CCJ's, etc affect the individual, not the address. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0
