F&F getting it in writing

Options
we wrote to one of my partners creditors with a F&F offer which they wrote back saying they accepted.
we used the standard F&F template letter on national debtlines website which stipulates as part of the offer the creditor will update any credit records and that the debtor is no longer liable for the debt etc etc.
we called this particular creditor today as their letter only said they accepted the offer as full and final settlement but didnt offer any further compliance.
On the phone the guy stated that once they had payment they would then agree to these terms in writing. he suggested that as the phone conversation was being recorded that gave us protection over a verbal agreement in the mean time and insisted that they did agree with those terms.

im dubious about this as ive always read that its imperative to get things like this in writing first. the creditor is part of the Lloyds TSB group so not some small get up.

does this sound dodgy or am i being too paranoid?

  • I'd always advise getting it confirmed in writing first and would certainly not pay without receiving that first.

There was someone the other day (sorry I've forgotten the username) who was offered a F&F and paid over the phone - only to discover £100 was still outstanding and "funnily enough" it turned out that they couldn't find a recording of that phone call.....

Get it in writing first. Nothing else is acceptable.

As said, phone recordings go missing, you are told the person didn't have the authority to make the offer, any sort of excuse.

In writing FIRST. Always. Before you part with a penny.

This..... Under no circumstances send any payment without receiving the full terms of the acceptance in written form from them, you will be burning your money. When you do get what you think covers all the relevant agreements you can phone National Debtline and read the letter back to them to make doubly sure you are covered.
