Uniform Tax Refund HELP?!

I am Staff Rep for a Nandos Branch, and have been looking into reclaiming tax back for myself for washing my uniform, could somebody help.

Is it only people who pay tax i.e - Non Students who will get the refund or is it any member of staff?

Where do I find the forms to print for all the staff?

How much would each member of staff get back per year for waiter/waitress work?

Any other help would be perfect.
Thank you, Tom.

It would be an allowance against taxation and in the same way as a membership of a union is. You would need to be a tax payer to request this allowance against tax.
  • Anyone who is provided with a uniform but has to launder it themselves is entitled to claim a fixed laundry allowance as a legitimate expense against tax. There are different rates for different trades. It's not much use for a part-timer say who doesn't pay tax (it comes in the form of an increase to your Personal Allowance, i.e. the point at which you start paying basic rate tax). I thinks it's £60 for the food industry, which would save you £12 in tax if you were paying it.

My husband recently claimed for his uniform, and it was back dated a few years too. He didn't fill in a form, just sent a letter to his tax office with his details, ni number, stating where he had worked and that his companies didn't wash his uniform or provide any facilities for it be washed by himself, and that's it's something with a company logo on so can't be worn for personal use. They just adjusted his tax code. It's not much, but for the price of a stamp it's worth it.
