Very Very Very Hypothetical Question

  • It is worth noting that some countries now have reciprocal treaties enabling monies to be recovered if the debtor can be traced overseas. I'm pretty sure Australia allows UK banks to apply for court orders in their jurisdiction to apply for seizure of assets or deduction at source payments from employers etc. It might be worth checking if NZ has an equivalent treaty - if you deliberately stop payments when you have reasonable facilities to continue paying, you could also face allegations of fraud or obtaining money by deception (depending on how recently some of the debt was created).

For me it is isn't about morals. It is about being able to travel freely, knowing that I don't have to look over my shoulder for the next six years.

    I wish you luck x
