Ok so those of you who've seen me post before will know I got engaged less than a week ago and am now trying to organise a wedding for April 2013...just over a year away, which apparently in wedding-planning terms is the equivalent to about 5 minutes as we've found when trying to find venues with available dates!

Wanted to do it this December but that is absolutely out of the question - no availability whatsoever.

However the venue I really like, which is just 5 minutes down the road from us and has the benefit of giving you the option of bringing your own caterers (since finding out that our favourite restaurant does wedding catering we're desperate to have them do it) has 6th April 2013 available - which would be an ideal date for us!

I then started to panic as they can't see us for an appointment or to show us around until Saturday 10th March because their appointments are all booked until then and I was worried that, as 6th April appears to be the only free Saturday they have after beginning of March until god knows when in 2013, it would get snapped up before we get a chance to go and see it properly.

However I just spoke to the nice lady who has been replying to my emails and she said that, although it is against policy, she will hold that date for us until our appointment on 10th March (at which point if we decided we definitely wanted it we'd need to pay the deposit) !!!! YAAAAY!!! So we have a potential venue and if it all checks out fine when we go for our appointment we'll pay the deposit and book it for definite...

I know if I get the church and reception venue sorted that everything else will be ok - there are few options for churches and venues round here but surely there will be more options for photographers/flowers/cars etc so that will be less of a problem finding someone not booked up?

YAAAAAY!!!!!!!

  • woah got a bit confused there as your first paragraph says april 2012, tried to see if it had been posted last year but with this new look forum its a right pain! read on and then saw you ment 2013 lol
anyway can you cram in a few venues before then? then youll know for definite if anything compares to it or not, yes dont worry im sure there will be more availability for photographers and the like but i know of some that are taking bookings for next year now so as soon as you know your date book them too!
even still theres been quite a few who have got things done and dusted in a few months so its still possible x

    Thanks!

TBH there aren't many options - in terms of the traditional 'country house hotel' options anywhere near us there are two possibilities and then in terms of 'wedding venue that's nice but not a hotel' there is one other one (a converted 15th C barn thing, it's nice but doesn't have the outdoor space for pictures). So really you're looking at three local options (before you start being more creative and looking at restaurants with function rooms or...shudder...airport hotels) so I suppose it wasn't THAT difficult for me to pick somewhere! lol!

Yup will try and look at the two other local venue options although both are being really unresponsive and unhelpful with their contact so far (standard generic responses, sending me brochures I already have and didn't request rather than answering my questions, etc whereas the girl at the venue we're going to see has been emailing me back and forth and couldn't be more informative or helpful) so that somehow turns me off them a bit...

TBH, I don't care that much. I'm pretty sure the two country house hotels near me are equally nice. As long as it's a nice room big enough for a ceilidh, and is in a nice setting where they will look after you etc (rather than a church hall) that's all I want. Being able to use our own caterers rather than theirs is a huge bonus but not absolutely essential. Having somewhere gorgeous for pictures again is a bonus but not essential. I just want the church where my parents got married, and then somewhere nice for a bit of a party.

If it's nicer than a church hall or an airport hotel it'll be fine for me! :)
