Allergic reaction to spot cream, help!

  • Thanks anatomical, great advice there. Unfortunately, my aqueous cream does contain SLS. As it is a massive tub and I don't want it to go to waste, do you think it will be ok just to wash my face on it but not to apply it as a moisturiser? I will definitely check out the range you suggested. I will also avoid powder tomorrow and 'big up' my eye makeup. Might end up looking like Dame Edna though!

Well from what I've read leaving it on longer is the biggest problem in thinning the skin and potentially causing more problems, so in the long run using a different moisturiser will be better for your skin. If it is working for you till you've cleared up your damaged skin then don't let it go to waste, just purchase one without SLS next time.

Haha, well that certainly would leave a lasting impression!

Just to reiterate when anatomical said. Continuing with the Aqueous as a wash will be fine. I actually use that to wash and diprobase or double base to use as a moisturiser. Depends what doctor I see to which one they prefer to prescribe, to me they are much of the same. While your skin is continuing to heal, I wouldn't be too worried about using the aqueous in the meantime.

E45 is supposed to be pretty good if you can use it, contains lanolin though, which a few people are allergic to. Haven't used it for years as it's one of my triggers, it may have changed since then though.

Doodoot is also right, although the antihistamines may help, u may also need a steroid to help with the swelling. I feel for you, I know how much pain I was in with the allergy to the mosquito bites in germany, I looked like Quazimodo's twin sister with all my swellings

Have you been to your GP? Please go in the next few days if you can (unless your skin is suddenly back to normal).
I can empathise with you completely, I really hope you had an okay first day at work! You can always just explain that you had a reaction to something a few days ago if people look concerned, might make you more relaxed too. I had a bad reaction to a facial when I'd just started my job and for days I had to go into work caked in sudocream looking a pasty red flakey mess. I couldn't even get makeup on. I would go home at night and just layer up sudocream and oils like a face mask and leave it on all night. God my face was a mess!!!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
    Antihistamines.

I'd be going to the doctor though with such a severe reaction.

  • Hi everyone,

Luckily my skin is a lot better today, though by no means 100%. I don't think anyone at my new job noticed anything though. I put my makeup on as normal and had to touch it up during the day as it got a little red and crusty, for want of a better phrase. I have just moved to a new area and don't have a GP here yet, though I will look into that. I am considering just staying away from skin products with chemicals in them, because you never really know what you're putting on your face, though I can see that getting very expensive. I will certainly be sticking to tea tree oil or witch hazel to help with any break-outs from now on. You never really appreciate just now good you look or how nice your skin is until something goes horribly wrong! Thank you everyone for your advice xx

Tbh hon, using aqueous as a facewash won't do you any harm long term. It may even help your spots.

Please get yourself registered with a GP cos these allergies can be quite serious. It was your face that was swollen this time, could be your throat and tongue next time. I'm not trying to scare you, but it can happen, although that's a very extreme case.
