City Financial - Fraudsters!

My partner in trying to apply for an unsecured loan was approached by a company called City Financial. The man he spoke to over the phone called himself Nick Dawson and spoke with an Indian accent. He told my partner that he was guaranteed for a £4000 loan but wanted him to pay £115 up front (which would have been the equivalent of the first instalment) in to a Halifax account. This he said was necessary to make certain that my partner would receive his money that same day. I intervened at this point as obviously this did not sound at all right. I spoke to Nick Dawson myself and politely asked him for his companies full name address and company licence number. he became somewhat flustered and kept repeating that all details would be sent to my partners e-mail address. I replied that i was not interested in waiting for an email, i simply wanted the relevant information which as i reminded him any legitimate company would be able to provide instantly. He then said that he did not have this information, so I challenged him saying that the reason he could not tell me any details was because he was a con artist! He denied this asking me to hold whilst he got his Supervisor, seconds later he hung up on me. Every time he called back and I answered he hung up, finally responding only when my partner answered the phone. A female called Christina spoke to my partner quite rudely and insisted that they were "doing us a favour!!" and gave my partner a new number to call 'customer services' which was an identical number as theirs except for the last digit. Obviously we did not call back! I then proceeded to look on the internet and found 'City Financial' were well known as fraudsters and had conned many people who had previously complained on this site and many others, going back many years. I wanted to post this just to warn others to be on their guard and to advise them not to give money up front to any company as clearly they are unlikely to see their money again. Their telephone no is 01614082625 (Manchester)

Yes - there's lots of posts about these fraudsters on this site.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

    Well done on intervening,
  • Hope your other half didn't give him debit card details. If he did, close the account immediately, or at least empty it for the next week or so.

Good on you for what you did.
