and before anyone tells me that this is not about money saving my son has been saving (and cleaning cars for months) and is now in a position to place a (pre) order. So i am looking for advice on where the best deals are.
We have looked at Argos, Woolworths, Play, Amazon and game, the problem is the bundles often include 16+ and 18+ games and he is only 12, also the mail order ones may not be there for the 23rd (and when you have been saving for nearly a year, you want it on the day it comes out~!)
So i am favouring woolies, anbody else any suggestions please?

Maybe try Game as they do a reward card which works out at about 2.5% equivalent back in loyalty points. You can also trade the games in and get student discount, I think you will get points if you order online and can use Quidco for some cashback too.2p off is still 2p off!0

I didn't know about the reward card and forgot about quidco - cheers0

A little help;

The card takes 21 days to get if you buy it online

Seriously though...he want's an xbox360 really. The PS3's blue ray laser diodes are failing fast in america apparently and theres nothing from sony to say they have binned the dodgy uk ones with the laser diode problems. Plus at 50-60 pound a game is it really moneysaving? i know that neither is £40 for a 360 game but your not far off getting 2 xbox games for the price of one ps3 game. Furthermore sony doesnt have many exclusives lined up. Most of the ps3 games you will get on 360 anyway, for £10-£20 less. And most of the ps3 games are aimed at the older teen market. Rant Over. lol
I would try gamestation ive got all my consoles there and they are great. Depending on which package you want though.
they have different packages available.
60gb PS3 and 1 game(selected) - £459.99
60gb PS3 and 2 games(selected) - £494.99
60gb PS3 and 3 games(selected) - £529.99
60gb PS3 and 4 games(selected) - £564.99
Selected Games are:-
F1 Championship Edition- Have all been pants
-
Genji - Days of the Blade- Genji who?
-
MotorStorm- pants
-
Resistance: Fall of Man (15)- good but age 15 minimum
-
Ridge Racer 7- ridge racer six with a half-assed update(mainly graphics)
Game are offering only 2 packages online (may differ instore but not by much)-
60gb PS3, Resistance: Fall of Man(15), Call of Duty 3(15), Motorstorm - £554.96
-
60gb PS3, Resistance: Fall of Man, Virtua Fighter 5, Virtua Tennis 3. - £564.96

crompton, any links to a 'credible' source where the PS3 diodes are 'failing fast'? You seem to have all the knowledge, but no info to back this up! Is someone an xbox fanboy per chance?
And as for the price of the games, you are able to get them for between £30-£35, as well as the ones that cost £49.99 (I'm sorry but £60 per game has just been plucked out of the air on this occassion, unless you can prove me wrong!) Some Xbox titles are also £49.99!!
The OP is asking for people to provide some information as her son wants a PS3, and giving someone absolutely duff, one sided information, spouting garbage you've heard your neighbours, brothers, best mate's uncle tell you doesnt help at all.
OP, most shops will 'force' game bundles on you, some of which arent the best release titles, but you dont want to buy just the system and have nothing to play on it on release day, so they know they can get away with it! unfortunately, as with all console releases (perfect dark - xbox 360?) the release games are a little lack-lustre, but you'll find that they are an improvement on the USA release. Sure, most of them have been out on the xbox for a while, but if your lad hasnt played them, then whats the problem with that?! He'll have a blast on some of them i'm sure!
My advice is to head on over to the AV Forums PS3 setion (i'll provide a link) and see what the 'dudes' over there are saying. theres no much chat about ps3 pre-orders and where the best places are, you'll be spoiled for choice! And if he wants an xbox 360 instead, then let that be his choice, and dont listen to anyone that says 'you want one over the other, cos that one is rubbish because....[lies, lies, lies, lies, lies]' Let him make his own mind up.
cant blame the little fella for being excited and wanting one on launch day, I remember that feeling at that age! I'm personally waiting a few months till I take the plunge! Its a lot of money, which we may see drop over the months (not that much though) and when the best titles come out, it'll be more worth while then. Plus, its harder to afford one and get worked up over it when you have a mortgage to pay!

Crispy, thanks for your comments - that is exactly what i needed to hear, my 12 yo is sat next to me now and he is excited. he saved ALL his brithday money, christmas money most of his pocket money and is out washing cars every weekend to afford the bundle price (which i think is a great ethos!) he currently has saved £436.
He is currently favouring the PC World deal (plus 6% through quidco i beleive) but will go straigh to the forum you suggest and have a look.0 -
No probs. I may owe you an apology also, just read my post and referred to you as a 'she', so if i'm wrong, oops! just an assumption (sexist as I assumed most men would know about this, but i guess thats not necessarily the case) so there's egg on my face
Good on your lad though for saving! I'd definitely go for an internet deal where you can go through quidco to save some extra dough, and maybe buy games from abroad before the console comes out to save even more, as games are region free, so an american game will play on a british console. Its a bit of a price saver, but you wont be able to trade the games in so they're either keepers, or fit for ebay! but theres also loads of info on the avforums about the places these are readily available from, and the best places out of the lot (some dont charge duty either so check it out). I'm sure he'll have a wicked time with it (the lucky g..)!!0 -

Not if we bought them from where you do. Cheapest I've seen so far is PowerplayDirect at approx £35 a game with discounts to be had using vouchers.Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

MDUK do you know anyone that's travelling to the US anytime soon?
I've just got back and brought a PS3 for $599.99 so roughly £305. That was just for the 60Gb console. So I then got another Six Axis controller for $59.99/£30ish and also three of the top selling games for $40/£20ish each.
All in it's cost me £395ish meaning I've saved myself £29.99 over a 60Gb UK release but also have two controllers and three games. So the saving is probably closer to £200 if I were to of brought those in the UK after release.
Obviously it's not the most practical of money saving ideas but you never know someone may be jetting off soon that you know. Word of warning though you can only bring £149, currently, of goods into the UK without paying customs charges.0 -
