Mould removal help please

Could anyone please suggest how I might remove mould from a padded headboard on a bed?

I would normally use Dettol mould and mildew remover (green spray bottle) to remove mould from net curtains etc but the headboard is blue and the dettol spray would bleach it. Any suggestions gratefully received!!

Thanks
Zziggi

Difficult it it is a fabric padded headboard. Wonder if a bit of white vinegar might help? People seem to suggest that for so many cleaning jobs.Test on rear though.

I have just attacked mould on my painted bathroom wall. Bleach alone would not touch it. Made a paste of soda crystals and bleach. Put on goggles and gloves, covered up carpet and fixtures. Opened windows. Applied paste to mould spores and left for 20 mins. The wiped off an rinsed wall down and dried. Mould has dissapeared totally. Time will tell if it reappears.

Oddly, it did not take the colour from the paint.

If your headboard is plastic, you could perhaps try a bit on the rear to see if it works/causes damage?

    Good luck.

Ammonia kills mould spores and cleans things, plus I have found it safe on all fabrics tested so far. I use it to clean carpet stains and remove stains from clothing. Do a spot test out of sight first however, but chances are good it's fine.

Just ammonia itself with no other ingredients, it's sold as a solution in water at many hardware shops. It commonly comes in plastic bottles and is called "household ammonia" with various brands making it.

It has a pretty strong smell, but it's great at removing stains from things, cleaning glass, removing burnt on grease from baking trays and killing mould. It being safe for most fabrics makes it the perfect thing to kill mould in fabrics. I usually dilute it more with some water for everyday use. One major benefit to it is that ammonia evaporates readily so the things you clean with it are not left with any cleaning product residue in them, which is another reason why I use it on the carpets as residual detergent can leave a grime attracting sticky patch.

I have used vinegar diluted half & half with water to remove damp mould from a roll out awning on our camper van. I brushed it on, then wiped it off with a damp cloth. It came up like new..and no expensive patented cleaners needed.
    Worth a try!!

Stardrops Ammonia is sold by my local Home Bargains, but it's possible they sell just bottles of ammonia. I think ammonia is also used in certain window cleaners so it may be worth looking at labels. I'd also try Wilkinson or B&M. Although I've never actually used ammonia for removing mould from fabric, so I don't know how well it works! HTH :)
