Verbal contract being broken...help

I started work for my company, ( a small privately owned pub) May last year, under the understanding that it was a 3 month trial and after that i would receive a contract of employment.
I completed my 3 month trial and was given a pay rise, but was never given a written contract, but when i asked other people at work, no one else had one and i had been told a verbal contract is as good as a written one and since I was getting treated fine, I was happy enough with this at the time.
In November they hired a new head chef who at first seemed fine. I was still getting all my contracted hours and since it was xmas was getting a few extra hours so that was all fine.
Then the problems started. My boss told me she was looking for someone for 2-3 days a week to cover my and the head chefs days off. Soon we had someone else working with us, who wasn't a problem himself, but once the xmas rush was over, I was told that my hours would be reduced slightly as its quieter in january. I notice the first week this happened that my hours had been shared with the new person so we had 3 and a half days each. I asked my head chef about it, who then denied the fact that the new person was only part time, but informed me where possible i would get the majority of the hours. I also spoke to my boss about it who also said that he was never part time and ensured me that my reducion in hours was only because it was January and quiet.
I was not very happy with this, as I felt like I had been totally cheated and lied to. A few weeks went on with the same division of shifts, until one day i came in and got pulled aside by my head chef. The day before I had written him a note saying that the fridge tempretures hadn't been done on one of my days off. I got told in a very rude manner that its pretty much none of my business to tell him what to do and not to write notes for people.I apologised and said that i didn't mean it in an offensive matter, i just presumed it was my duty to inform him of something that hasn't been completed. Ever since he hasn't spoken to me, my hours have been cut even more and i am only there on his days off, and I haven been given any explanation as to why. To make things worse one of my friends told me he has been telling everyone i have a attitude problem for answering him back and that I just moan to much about my hours!!
Im not very happy about this to say the least and this week went in to look at my shifts to find out that the supposed part timer has now got 5 days a week and i have been left with 2 ( obviously being my head chefs days off). I tried talking to my boss last week about it, who has said she will try and find the time to talk to me, but the problem being she is obviously ok with what he is doing to me, if not she wouldn't authorise it.
I really use to love my job, but now absolutely hate going in. I feel like a joke and that im only there to do what no one else wants to and that my full time job has now turned into 2 days a week. The worse thing is that i cant talk to anyone at my work about it and I don't know where to go from here. I have bitten my tongue for so long and went with the attitude of just going in to do my job, but its got the the point where i cant afford it any more and it is making me really miserable.
Any thought and advice on what i can do in this circumstance would be very much appreciated.

OP, is there anyway you can find another job which is similar with more hours? It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0
