hi, I'm on dmp with CCCS. Everything running smoothly. Not missed any payments etc, but now I have a problem. My washing machine has stopped working & it's out of warranty. I pay CCCS £275 per month. I was going to use my dmp money to buy new washing machine, but Im really really worried about the consequences of doing this. It is a genuine emergency & 1 I could not have foreseen. Any advice. I know this will be a 1 off and everything will be back to normal next month. What should I do? Contact CCCS & let them know or contact all of my creditors individually or try to get funds elsewhere?

Contact CCCS directly and inform them about the circumstances. You can then send token amount for this month and buy a washing machine. I'm sure there will not be any problems with this. Many have missed the odd payment when one of life's little emergencies crops up.0 -
Agree with Bettingmad - however, does your DMP incl an amount for emergencies?
If so, this money must be put away for situations exactly like this - if not, when you're speaking to CCCS say this has made you realise you need something in place to cover situations like this and can your SOA be adjusted to allow a small emergency fund each month.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I put £20 per month for emergencies, which I must admit I have not been setting aside as I've just been treating this as part of my monthly cashflow, which I now know I shouldn't. I've only been only dmp for 4 months, so even if I had set aside 4x£20 then I still wouldn't have been able to afford washing machine. But you are right, I may need to amend my budget to allow me more of an emergency fund which I must set aside in future. Just needed some re-assurance before I take the plunge. Thanks.0

As you've just started and obviously haven't had time to build the emergency fund yet, it shouldn't be a problem
Emergency funds are a nightmare to get off the ground .... I started mine towards the end of last year and was then hit with a huge vets bill, followed 2 weeks later by my fridge freezer packing in - that wiped out literally everything I had in the emergency fund and another account that I've stuck £10/month into for quite a while (it was my last resort money IYKWIM).
Managed to get the emergency fund back to £75 and then my car needed tyres (were going to be budget for this year but hadn't planned on needing them so soon) at the same time as service, tax & breakdown cover (budgeted for) ... so the emergency fund is currently sitting at £5.01 which makes me really uncomfortable in case something else goes wrong in the immeditate future.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
