Advice from Barclaycard re lower repayments

I am now in a position where I can no longer afford to make my usual repayments due to a change in circumstances. I can only afford £10/month. And have advised Barclaycard of this today, see below. My repayments were originally £49/month and the least they could accept on the phone was I think £24/month.

Spoke to an agent in Barclaycard Collections in India who after conferring with his colleague advised I would need to go to a Debt management company who would offer a proposal on my behalf to Barclaycard for the reduced payments.

Have I been given the right advice?
Will this cost me anything to do?
Is there a better route?

Would appreciate any help with this

Regards
Gus

  • No, you don't need to go to a debt management company, but don't bother dealing with this on the phone as their call centre is frankly naff.
You need to write to them, enclosing an offer of payment and a financial statement (See the Newbie/SOA links at the top of the board). You can deal with this yourself.
