How to get started in promotional work?

Does anyone know the best way to get started doing some promotional work? I'm a trained dancer and performer but there's not a lot of work about at the moment. My friends have given me the names of a few agencies they have done promotional work for in the past and I've registered with them but haven't heard anything yet. Has anyone got an ideas of how to start getting some work?

My friends have worked on the type of promotions you may have seen in shopping malls, outside super markets or at festivals etc, handing out free samples, demonstrating new products, and encouraging people to take part in the event etc. I've registered with a couple of agencies they've told me about but haven't had any work yet and wondered if anyone had any advice. I also fancy doing some mystery shopping work if anyone knows anything about how to get into that?
