Maysie "One hv told me my daughter would be overweight by the time she was one if i didn't give up bf her she was around 7 months at the time." !!
What a thing to say!!!
Where on earth did she get that info from? Sounds positively Victorian.** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0 -
I read this thread with interest.
My little girl is 3 and i tried so hard to breastfeed when she was born.
She was rooting on my breast, but couldnt seem to latch on. Midwives kept commenting on how I had small nipples. One said that she prob couldnt feel nipple in her mouth, so kept on rooting, she even joked that i should swap with a mum with a smaller bayb as they have smaller mouths and would prob find my nipple! My daughter was quite a large baby (9lb 3)
I even tried a nipple shield, so she had something to latch onto, but she just wasnt gettin enough milk.
I struggled on for two weeks, and she did not settle- i now think it was because she was hungry all the time! I tried expressing to keep my milk production up, but it wasnt enough. After 2 weeks, i gave her a bottle of formula, and she drank and drank and drank!
When i gave up trying, all i got was 'oh breast is best you know' bu i had tried my hardest, and i also fought to feed with medication i was on. (doctors refused to look at research i found stating it was ok) I reduced the dose to the lowest, and it has short half life, so none would pass to baby, but i had to fight be even be allowed to breastfeed her... only to find daughter 'couldnt' do it.
It really got me down. all the magazines and people around me shoving breast is best in my face, and i felt like an uter failure- such a bad mother that i coudnt even feed my daughter! I wanted to feed so much. If i have another child i will try, as it is something i would love to do.
It has been so nice to hear people saying- breast is good, but it doesnt matter.. thankyou all so much.. i have still carried that guilt with me after 3 years

Its reassuring to know there are others out there who know how devastating it is to not be able to bf for whatever reason when that is what you wanted to do. I know where you are coming from totally. It would be nice if the whole world bf but its not an ideal world we live in is it? Yes, breastfeeding is excellent if it is possible for you and I take my hat off to every mother that does it, but I dont think those of us who cant/dont for whatever reason should be made to feel under so much pressure and guilty for not doing so. Especially when people dont know why that is the case either.
I just look at my beautiful daughter and think I know I did what was best for her and thats the important thing, but I still hold that feeling of sadness and loss deep down in my heart.
Maybe next time it will be better for us both, who knows?

whats breastfeeding got to do with freebies? why is this incredibly long post not been moved from here to the appropriate section? is someone giving away breast milk or something?!? thought not. move the thread, so anyone wanting to read about human juices and sore nipples can find it if they so wish!0

It's free in comparison with formula and bottles0

lots of things are free in comparison to other things! sex is free-er than a vibrator, but a post on that certainly wouldnt be allowed in the freebies section! breathing free too, should we have a post on that too?0
