I'm not sure. But I'm not sure what else they would have expected me to do with the situation I found myself in. The only way to get funds would be via credit - whether a credit card, normal loan or payday loan. The shortest term option (or so I thought at the time) was the payday loan, I was expecting to get the website finished quickly and pay it off, but as it turned out there was delay after delay with the website, meaning I've got stuck in this cycle.

Well surely you should know whether your allowed to take out more loans when on a DMP, surely they told you another loan wasnt allowed.

I'm not going to try anywhere else as I don't want to dig myself further into a hole. I'll just have to manage the next couple of days with the £20 I've got in my pocket. But in the unlikely event I do have to borrow next month (shouldn't have to if I get paid for the website) I might have to look elsewhere.

Earlier you suggested you were in desperate need of funds and had no where else to turn. But now we learn you didn't really need to borrow the money after all.

Is it sensible to take out a (payday) loan when you don't really need the money?

Not verbally they didn't, no, or certainly not that I remember. But I'm sure it will be written somewhere in the small writing in the paperwork I've got filed somewhere.

As I say, I'm aware its probably not allowed, but didn't think about it at the time of taking the loan as I was more concerned about having the money to pay for a roof over my family's heads, and thought I'd have it paid off the following month. There isn't too much I can do about that now except hope that next month I'll get paid for the website so I can clear the loan and get back to normal. Hindsight and all that.

I was managing my debts fine through a debt management company for several years

Which debt management company are you with? It is one of the free ones - not a fee paying one?

My car insurance is due out on Monday, followed by my rent, the £20 in my pocket won't cover either of these and will be gone in the next hour as I'm about to go out shopping for the few groceries I can afford. Therefore I am rather in need of the loan - I don't just pay them loads of money in interest and fees for entertainment purposes.

It is a fee paying one, but a small percentage of what we pay per month.

Just got £10's worth for now, hopefully if Wonga sort out the loan on Monday it will give us what we then need to cover the the car insurance and rent for this month.

We used to do our shopping weekly, would cost more than £20 though. But I figured out that every time we went, we were spending money on stuff we didn't really need (only bits and bobs but it all adds up), so I decided to start monthly shopping instead (meaning we only get stuff we don't really need once a month, rather than 4 times). This works quite well, we still have to go out for a few bits like bread and milk throughout the month but we do spend less that way.
  • Do you bank with Santander? I read somewhere that their systems have wrongly been rejecting some faster payments in the last few days.
  • I do, yes. So possibly could be that. Thanks, will have to look into it.
