    Hi Shane,

I'm also pretty new to this so not sure I can be much help, but just wanted to reassure you that there WILL be a way through this. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along at some point to help you, but you may have to wait until normal "getting-up" time. Things always look way worse in the middle of the night, so I'd suggest now you've got most of the defaults written down here that you go do something else and try to get some sleep at some point - then check back in a few hours for some good help and advice.

  • Hi Shane,

Welcome to the boards. It's a horrible place to be when you first realise the reality of the situation, but there is plenty of support availble on here and people with all sorts of knowledge and helpful information.

Generally if you can afford the repaments it's best to pay off more on the debt with the highest interest rate first, and then tackle each one in interest order.

If you are struggling to make the repayments then the most important thing is seek some proper advice. You could call the National Debtline or try to make an appointment at your local CAB. I think National Debtline might be open on a Saturday morning if you wanted to call someone today. It will also help them best advise you if you have a list of the money you have coming in and going out.

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best.

Hi, if I've read correctly its your birthday today, if so, Happy Birthday :)

Well done on posting, it's hard to start with.

Defaults drop off your credit file 6 years from the date of default, I'm not sure what happens if there's still an outstanding amount. A company can only place 1 default per debt so after 6 years they can't give you another one. so your cap quest one will be removed from your file in May 2013.

I would suggest firstly making sure you pay all your accounts on time, especially the ones that do not have defaults, thus no incurring anymore late payment marks on credit files. Make sure you continue to pay the Lloyds one as they can still default you at any point.

Pay off the defaulted accounts as and when you can. Maybe start with the £34 orange one and the £61 Hutchinson one.....a satisfied default is much better than an unpaid one.

I hope that helps, I'm sure if anything I've said is incorrect someone with more knowledge will say.

    Good luck, Anna

The defaults will drop off your credit file after 6 years WHETHER PAID OR NOT so there isn't much point in paying them now given they are nearly 6 years old and obviously the creditors haven't bothered taking action given the small amounts involved.

It is a shame to get your credit file filled with defaults all for such tiny sums, the good thing is next year you won't have to worry about them being there anymore AND they will also be Statute Barred (after 6 years of no acknowledgment or payment in England, 5 in Scotland).
