After trying to copy the ingredients of certain items I see that a lot of things contains onion powder - any idea where I could get this from? - I've never seen it anywhere

Schwartz who do the spices make it, most supermarkets do their own version, ASDA calls them onion granules if I remember correctly. One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
Do you mean you are looking at the ingredients of ready made jars or meals and trying to reproduce them? If so, I would just use an chopped onion instead of onion powder.0

Hi my husband does not like onions in his food. So i use onion powder or onion salt when cooking instead. As lil-me says you can get it in most supermarkets.0

We use loads of onion granules and also onion salt. My two DD's love a bit of onion granules/salt sprinkled on chips before cooking them in the oven. Also really tasty sprinkled on cheese on toast before cooking. Probably my favourite ingredients. By the way does any one know where to buy onion salt/granules in bulk cheaply??? Also we have noticed that a lot of shops have stopped selling the granules - we prefer to add our own salt. Has anyone else noticed this??:rotfl: :rotfl:

Yep - and I saw a recipe the other day for making ketchup that needed it - although I suppose you could blend it if you used chopped onions
I also wanted to use it for seasoning so that does need to be the dried stuff
Thanks for your help everyone0 -
hey...
we have them, onion granules and garlic granules. ASDA was the place. but i've also seen them in tesco.
hope that helps
(btw, Jamie Oliver uses them in 'rubs' for meat, which seems to be like a dry marinade, but without the time in the marinade, if that makes sense. so really just a flavoured crust...)0 -
why not make your own soooo simple.
take your onions chop them up as fine as you can place them on a baking tray and put them in the oven at about 150 degrees ? gas mark 2 till dry and can be crumbled easily
then let them cool and you can use whatever means you have at your disposal to make them into a powder, a morter and pestle is probably best but a coffee grinder, food processor, or could even place in baking parchment and batter with a rolling pin till you get your required consistancy.
far cheaper than buying it.0
