can't believe there's only two weeks to december! separate to get meal plan under belt so i can try and tread water with groceries and the increase in eating out / functions december brings - don't want to waste good food!
also just remembered that on 30th of Nov, our house insurance is due for renewal, so will go sort out quotes for that...
sorry for bombarding this diary this morning, but hoping to get focused and organised this side of the new year so i have a fighting chance for next year - though as VDOT47 says, i have 27 months - plenty time and no need for crazy money saving.......youre not my husband by any chance :rotfl:Mortgage debt : -£17,000

Ok, just signed up for the mfw2019 challenge to try and keep me accountable.
i withdrew from a plummeting share scheme, so put an additional £5k into the mortgage in December, and started the new year with a mortgage figure of.....£39,414.
Have savings of £7000 and £1000 set aside for a tax bill. Hoping to finish January with a mortgage figure of £32,000. that's the goal for the next 3 weeks!
Ive tried to stock up the cupboards (toiletries, etc) and also as of next week do pack-ups for breakfast and lunch. so the grocery spend should reduce a bit.
I've went through all the utilities and getting good value for them all, so no savings to be madeperhaps get OH to look at his mobile contract.
maybe do a review of all the streaming subscriptions, we seem to have them all!Mortgage debt : -£17,000

I too am trying to find the balance between living my best life, as the kids say, and working on my mortgage. I am 40 this year though _pale_ so I need to get serious.

Theres some great numbers here!. <ay I ask what is your contracted payment and do you overpay regular amount or is it different every month? How many years will you knock off your original term if you are MF by 2020?0

Hi dano17439
We're with the nationwide, and my regular repayment is circa £300, and i have a standing order of £700, so i know i am always repaying £1000 each month. this was the amount that our mortgage repayments were initially, but as we made overpayments nationwide reduced the monthly repayments, and i just topped them up. so we know always to budget £1k for the mortgage. any further overpayment is a bonus, and if we want to have a spendy month then thats fine. I very much believe in living and enjoying life. I'd just rather spend wisely and not waste things.
When we took out our mortgage our redemption date was March 2032, so we will have knocked at least 12yrs off the mortgage and I think about £40k in interest, as we have made £90k in overpayments over the last 5/6 yrs so far.
We didnt make any overpayments for the first 6yrs or so of our mortgage as we were young and on grad salaries.... wonder where we would be had we made token overpayments in those first few years!
Its a bit more interesting when you're near the end and can see the numbers drop - even the husband is onboard nowMortgage debt : -£17,000
2019 overpayments : £23,0000 -
just made a payment of £500. and have nicely rounded our overpayments for the year to date to a nice round £20,000.
WE ARE NOW IN THE TEENS!!!
interestingly our overpayment borrow-back pot now sits at a few pounds over £90k! crazy to see such a high number, and how much it all adds up keep chipping away!
I have 6 more pay days before 2020...(get paid tonight ) and just under £20,000 to clear the mortgage for good. Soooo hope its achievable, gotta love a trier!Mortgage debt : -£17,000
2019 overpayments : £23,0000
