7 years later!!!

Hi all,just looking for advise as to where i stand.Had took out a loan in 2000 .which we were paying back.the money was being collected by an agent at the front door.This carried on till december 2004 when the agent stopped calling,now 7 years later i recieve a letter from a company saying they are taking this loan on??we owe xxxx which is a mystery as a credit check in the last couple years has shown no reports of us owing this money!,Any help would be much appreciated...Thanks Mark

Sounds like an Unsecured debt.

If you haven't had ANY contact nor made ANY payments since 2004 and have not acknowledged this debt, the debt is likely to be Statute Barred. You still owe the money but they cannot drag you through the quaqmire.

Thanks.. they want us to get in touch with them? should i just write back in a polite manner and say we are not paying this ...it does not show up on any credit search..Thanks again.

You need a statute barred template - have a read of the links and letters here - Statute barred debts and the Limitation Acts
