I personally think you should leave the account, cancel all incoming and outgoing payments and move them to another account, then start the process of reclaiming your charges to clear the amount left on the abbey account.
I'm sorry i dont know what to say with regards to the money going in tomorrow and wednesday, is there any way you can cancel it or get the benefits agency to ring up the bank on your behalf?
Plus i totally know what your saying about the way abbey take out transactions, its very confusing and it feels like they take it out twice, once when they reserve it as soon as you spend on the card and then again when it comes out of the account????

Hi
Thought people would like to know about this website

this way you don't even pay for the call! Hope this helps you a bit!
Abbey have done all these things to me also, I can't think about how much money they've had from me by putting me over my limit marginally then everything else falls out of place. But to give you some hope I'm reclaiming charges from them and its been a pain in the rear but they do pay out eventually.
Good luck.0 -
If you can move the account, I would strongly consider this option. Start afresh with a new account with a different bank and then start to claim back the charges. Make an arrangement with the Abbey to clear any overdraft over a number of months. I think (although this is by no means concrete) that you get a certain number of months to clear an overdarft before they default it, although I'm sure someone will quickly correct me if I am incorrect.0

To be honest Abbey haven't once mentioned shutting my account. I have for the last six years had a largeish overdraft with them and starting hasselling them for charges in sept ish. But that doesn't mean they don't do it.0

Another thing to watch with Abbey is little amounts of money disappearing £2 here £3 there another £1 and so on. When I complained they thought it was silly to argue and had no idea where the money was going. It takes them months to sort anything.Barclaycard 3800
