Employer owes me money

If a LTD company I used to work for has outstanding debts to me from unpaid wages (which they fully acknowledge they owe me, but claim they can't afford) - Are they allowed to just shut the company down and re-open in the same building, doing the same work but under a different name, in order to just wipe off the debt they owe me?

I have a reason to believe the directors offered me a contract, knowing full well the company didn't have the means to honour the agreement in order to exploit my skills without paying for them. Is there any kind of lawsuit I could file for negligence or fraud?

I worked for a company that made me redundant, didn't pay me a month's owed wages and then closed down and restarted the following day under a new name. I had to put a claim in with the DWP and only got 10% of what they owed me. That was the best I could hope for.
