Ruthbridge Letters

My partner received a letter before Christmas saying they had located him through a credit reference agency and could he ring to find out more details, which he did. They couldn't tell him who the debt was with and that they would write to him. Although did tell him the amount and that it was from 2002. He has no debts in the last ten years. He has today received another letter saying If you are Mr Sutcliffe please contact our offices and quote ref at which time further infomation can be provided.

If you are not Mr Sutcliffe ring anyway to confirm and if we receive no response with 7 days we may arrange for an agent to telephone you.

Can anyone help what to do next. I have read some letters on here, is sending a letter what I need to do?

Thanks

I'd ignore a letter like that, and wait until they send something that details what the debt in question relates to.

Quite likely that is just a fishing letter for a different mr sutcliffe, or if it is his debt sounds very much like it would be statute barred (meaning he doesn't need to pay).

If they write providing details of the debt (a balance owed, a creditor name perhaps) then either the prove it letter or possibly the hybrid letter that states you have no knowledge of the debt and even if it is his it would be statute barred.

Templates Letter when you know nothing about about the debt - AKA "Prove it" letter
or post #5 of this thread Statute barred debts and the Limitation Acts

  • Hi all....
I allowed my brother to use my home address to receive his mail.Unbeknown to me he has been receiving letters from debt collectors. When i returned home from work one day there was a hand delivered letter for him (another has since been delivered by hand since).I was concerned about this, opened it up (which i didnt want to do) and discovered the full extent of his debts(its for non payment of London congestion charge).I called them and explained and they said to send a copy of a utility bill as proof the address was in my name.
Yesterday i received a letter from Ruthbridge asking for me to contact them.I think its Ruthbridge fishing for info about my brother.I dont want thugs like Ruthbridge hassling me over my brothers debts.
I have since started sending all mail which is addressed to my brother back to senders.
