Wedding rings - metal advice

I have a platinum ring as I am allergic to all forms of gold. I dont want to spend a fortune on a platinum wedding ring as well and thought of either getting silver, palladium or titanium.
What I wonder is, what will the metals do to each other? Is there going to be any problem with wearing them together?
I have seen some lovely rings that I want and I really dont care how much they cost so I dont mind if its silver!

platinum is very soft and can be worn away by other metals
im also allergic to gold so was considering the same as you but i was advised to always have 2 rings that will sit together to be the same metal other wise 9 times out of 10 one will wear the other awayThe only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 50 -
I don't know what Steve at http://www.theweddingringspecialist.co.uk/ is like for platinum, but I've found his gold rings (18ct white gold for me, and 9ct yellow gold for MrD) to be very reasonably priced, far better than many high street shops. He provides very good customer service (always answering my random questions professional) and was able to sort out a problem with my ring very swiftly (HSamuel told me I needed a K - I didn't I needed a K.5).0

Are you sure? Isn't platinum the hardest and you can not wear white gold or gold with it as the platinum damages other metals?Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Silver is soft and can deform easily. Titanium is very lightweight but is supposed to be quite sturdy. It's also very cheap but you could struggle to find a 'nice' ring as it's usually quite chunky (men's rings often are titanium). You also wouldn't be able to resize a titanium ring so would need to make sure the size is right!0

I wouldn't recommend silver for a wedding ring. I've had various silver rings over the years and they do deform/wear thin in places over time. For a ring you'll wear all the time for the rest of your life, I'm not convinced silver is tough enough...0

Ok, totally different but....
Have you thought about a jade ring - the ring made from one solid piece of jade? You could have it plain or sculpted. You could also have a plain ring with metalwork done on the outside so that it wouldn't rub against your finger.
Jade can come in a variety of colours, not just green - anything from milky white through to pink.
Just google jade ring images.0 -
Palladium and platinum are very similar metals and would wear well together. Both are quite hard.
Silver is a definite no I would think. It's way too soft. Your platinum engagement ring would just wear it down and its too soft and maleable to be worn every day without deforming pretty quickly.
I know you mention titanium too but I dont know how well the colours would match? What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
Thanks for the thoughts and advice!
I have seen a titanium ring that I like with CZ in it, but like you say, not sure on what the colour match would be like. Ive got a silver thumb ring that I have had for about 10 years and it has never worn in anyway.
We are going away this weekend, so we are planning on going to some jewellers. Will ask their advice too.
I think I might have to go for palladium in the end.Married the absolute love of my life on Sunday May 6th and I couldnt be happier!!!0 -
Titanium is harder than platinum, so it would scratch your engagement ring.picklepick wrote: »Palladium and platinum are very similar metals and would wear well together. Both are quite hard.
My jeweler was't so sure (and she was a family frined, so she wasn't trying to push for the pricy option).
She said the number one rule is to have the same two metals.0 -
