being harrased for debts that arent even mine

ive moved property about a month ago and yesterday filled in a form to put my self on the electoral roll this morning have a baliff turn up at the door demanding payment for a debt in one of my brothers name
i explained to him that it wasnt me and shut the door he then shouted through the letter box to reoppen the door or hed "put my lights out"
he then asked me to show him some id so i did and he now says that im lying and that the debt is mine and that if i dont pay it hell remove my stuff

ive also just recieved in the post three letters for debt in brothers name

i phoned the police about the thug who calls himself a baliff so hopefully theyll deal with him but im worried more will turn up
how can i stop them turning up/or sending letters my gf is very ill and does not need this extra aggrevation

Don't let them in at all, even for a minute. Can you put together a pack with proof of your identity that you can show any that turn up with a template letter. Send the letter to the bailiff company (I'm sure there is a template on here somewhere) - the letter should state that you are not xxxx and that you take no responsibility for any of his debts. Any further communication will be considered harrassment.

Do you mean you let him in?

  • If he threatens you with violence, ask for his ID so you can pass on his details to the person you might think the debt belongs to.

Once you have them, pass them onto the police, and send his bosses a letter stating that any further visits to your home classed as harassment and reported to the police, you are not who they are looking for and one more incident will result in prosecution.

Then call your local Safer Neignbourhood Team, and ask to meet an officer to make a report.
