GU10 50w Halogen bulbs £2 !!

I had loads of these bulbs popping, and it starts to become expensive at around £5 per bulb so I did a bit of rummaging around for the best prices.

Found them for £12 for 6 in Homebase which is really good value.
I would have expected them to be less reliable for that price, but have found that the opposite is true.

I used to get 2 or 3 a month popping, but so far these from homebase have lasted 3 months with no losses, so went back for more just in case they sell out.
If only everything in life was as reliable...AS ME !!

Try Poundland... they have 'em in there 2 for a pound!
Snapped a load of those up not so long back....
Not had a chance to try them yet though, but even if they only last half as long I reckon they're good value.

Some of the biggest rip-offs on the high-street are for light-bulbs and batteries... can't believe what some places have the nerve to charge for them.
Ah! Good old trusty beer... I hope you never change.
  • 2 for £1 :) Wow, not bad if they don't burn out right away. I just had 3 burn out so I threw them in my online order from Tesco but when they arrived they were GU 5.... so I'm still in need of some bulbs :)

Sorry to say the Poundland ones are complete crap, no silvering on the back so they leak odd coloured light and have a big dark patch in the middle of the beam.

    Last a long time though!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had both 12V and mains voltage halogens from the pound shop and they're great. Wilkos were offering 3-for-2 on them a few months back - worked out at around £1.50 a bulb I think - and slightly better quality than the poundland ones.

(But if I saw them again in the pound shop I wouldn't hesitate!!!)

If like me you have bought light fittings from B&Q with GU10 bulbs, you may find it unbelievable but, it's actually cheaper to buy a new fitting with bulbs in than to buy 3 seperate bulbs. Who are they kidding?

Does any one know the difference between standard and di-chroic bulbs please?

I noticed this. I just fitted 2 strips of 4 of these bulbs in my kitchen.
  • I bought some as mine kept going. Best value I was able to find was from a company called yourwelcome.co.uk I was £10.85 for a box of 10 and have had no problem with them so far. Hopefully this link will take you to them:-

Got a pack of 2 for £2.99 from Woolworth's (Skipton) last weekend. They were priced at £5.99 on the shelf, came up at that price on the till. Only 35W, but they don't look that much darker than the other 50W ones. Will try Homebase next, B&Q are about £8 for 4.

    Hello,

Tesco stores have a triple pack of Philips GU10's for £5.99

Only just bought them, so havent used them yet.

They were the cheapest 'branded' ones I have seen in actual shops.
