Help me find a ring?

Hi everyone, longtime lurker finally having a reason to post.
As of last night, the other half is now my hubby-to-be and we are chuffed to bits. We are going shopping for a ring at the weekend. In my years of hopeful window-shopping I haven't seen one that's quite what I want, so I wondered if anyone here had any ideas as to where I might look. I would like something ruby and diamond, preferably in yellow gold. I don't have my heart set on a particular style, but a lot of the ones I've seen are more eternity ring than engagement ring and I'd rather avoid that. The budget is around £400. Any ideas?
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Ruby is a lovely stone...and theres loads of styles around...why not have a google using some of the following options to see if any take your fancy
Try ruby cluster....maybe a central ruby surrounded by diamonds...think kate middleton style
Try ruby trilogy....this will bring up 3 stone rings...choices being a central diamond flanked by 2 rubies or reversed ruby centre flanked by diamonds....
Try ruby 3 stone ring....this will bring up something antique looking possibly with small diamomds too....
Ill pop away and see if I can find some pics...there are plenty of styles to consider...and to be honest many of the high street jewellers dont automatically stock a great amount of ruby rings as the more trditional solitare diamondis very much in demand...however having said that..a good manufacturing jeweller who makes rings on their premises will alaways be happy to make something to your exact specification and price...so once you have a style in mind it is an option to consider...handmade rings can sometimes be expensive but not as expensive as you may think...especially if you dont want big diamonds too!
Other than that ...have a look in antique jewellers or antique markets they have lovely rubies at a far lower price than the new on the high street.
Also my advice would be to go inside the shops and try as many rings on as you want...there shoudnt be any obligation to buy and it will help you decide what you want...its amazing how different a ring can look on your finger rather than in a display case....you may find that something you previously though was not right suddenly becomes "the one"...and visa versa...something you though you really liked suddenly doesnt seem to "look Right"
Good luck with your search...your ring is out there its just a case of finding it...and congratulations on your engagement
just random styles ive got from ebay for you to see the variations around

Hey congratulations!!!
If I was choosing my own ring, especially one with coloured stones and yellow gold - then I'd try second hand and antique shops. My ring was my husband's Mum's - it was 22 years old before I got it and still beautiful and going strong! But before I new I was getting that, I really wanted to go ring shopping in all of the little antiquey shops in York for something intricate and with a history (that I would wildly make up!)
But if you want something new, it may be a good idea to go to onw of the jewellery quarters (Birmingham or London?).Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge #148 - £59.93

It was L a while back - I'd want to get measured again to double check, but my size hasn't really changed so I imagine that would be about right.0

This is the same as my Ruby & diamond engagement ring, but I got it from a local jeweller. Just wanted to say Congratulations & an excellent choice of stones, it's a very usually ring so people keep telling me.Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.0 -
Thanks, folks! Beautiful ring, fawny! I have seen one I love (which I think is the same as one of the ones on the diamondstore website) but am going to sleep on it. Your suggestions have been so helpful in giving ideas and confirming what we both like. Much appreciated!0

I love this one, but significantly over budget I'm afraid. I can see it sitting next to a wedding band really neatly too, which is something that is often forgotten about when buying an engagement ring"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510
