Don't know about the high street but I just got a new pair of prescription glasses last week delivered for £17.95 from http://www.glassesdirect.co.uk/ They are fab.0

Boots opticians aren't too bad (they've just taken over our dolland and aitchison) - I think their cheapest were about £40 and they were quite helpful and happy to offer suggestions with a bit of choice at the cheap end.
I ended up with a pair from vision express for £30 but they're not very nice plastic things - I only need to wear them occasionally at night when driving so it doesn't matter what they look like.
Our only independent optician only seems to do expensive designer frames. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Chemist.Mine has a rack of glasses of various strengths & a self test chart, got a couple pairs for work at around a fiver each, and they dont look like old NHS ones either, they've modern stylees...0

I'd recommend Asda. I've got my last two pairs from there. The tests were thorough and glasses were very reasonable in price. And they don't charge extra for thinning the lenses down. I think my last pair were about £50. I used to go to Specsavers and they cost me about £300! :eek:0

Thanks. Guess I'll try ASDA as I need my lenses mega-thinned (very strong prescription). Self-test charts are no good for me.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

Just looked on the website and that seems a very good deal, worth the hours drive. Do you have to book an appointment?Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
I just got a pair through from www.goggles4u.co.uk.
Took a couple of weeks to come, but they're exactly as they looked on the website and very comfortable. Not bad for £9.99!0 -

Yes you need an appointment, I had mine on a Saturday. Think it took a week or two for them to make up the glasses, but again I picked them up on a Saturday (I work during the week). Looking at the website, they are open Sundays too, didn't realise that.0
