Asda - Heinz Salad Cream scam

Went today to Asda Chandlers Ford and spotted an offer for Heinz 600g Salad Cream, flashed with 30% free. So I asked what the original price was without the free content.........
I was met with some confusion because the bottles were mixed in with the standard 600g ones. Those were priced at £2.00, and had 'rolled back' from £2.37
When I once again asked the question about the original selling price of the flashed one, they couldn't tell me. Thats probably because it would be 420g and that is an export sized bottle. Their smaller sized bottle, as with other retailers is 460g that retails for £1.75 in Asda, (£2.19 in Tesco.)
Therefore Asda are selling, no scamming, because at the price of the 420g would surely have been lower than the 460g........and by 'rolling back' the price of the 600g, what they lose on the swings, they are gaining on the roundabouts.
What was making it worse, the free flashed ones were mixed with the standard bottles! I have photos to prove all this too

You don't believe all supermarket offers do you?
Lynx was £2.89 the other week, now it is £2.98 or 2 for £5. B*ll**ks. It is only £2.70odd in Wilkinsons and the same in the local Nisa shop.
Emerge red bull clones 39p on rollback. You can get them from all the corner shops/newsagents for 35p.0 -

Is it just me getting confused?
420g + 30% free would be 546g
460g + 30% free would be 598g
you worked it out the other way round, you don't take 30% off the 600g bottle, but you add 30% to the original bottle you started with, that is 460g.
So if I understand your prices right, you get 600g for £2 on the rollback offer, or 600g for £1.70 on the 460g+30% offer.
Looks like a lot of fuss over nothing.0 -
Did you actually put it through the check out to check the price? Sounds like someone could have filled the shelf wrong.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Maybe..............okay so lets say I worked it out backwards, oooooh sorry, nevertheless it certainly isn't a fuss over nothing, because the 460g original was priced at £1.75 and the flashed product is priced at £2.00 so costing 0.25p more expensive. If you are able to take the hit the it is indeed a fuss over nothing.
I thought this forum and website was for telling others about scams and cheats amongst other things or have I got it wrong?0 -

How do you know they scan at £2? Did you actually buy one? If so did you go back to point out the mistake and get your money back, or contact Asda HO about it?
Pricing will depend on the bar code on the bottle, as programmed into the tills, not on where the bottles have been placed by store staff.
From what you are saying, it sounds like you have made a lot of assumptions, so personally I can't really tell if it's a scam or not, and even the pictures you have taken can't prove it one way or the other.0 -
big big scam am shocked its like today in tesco wanted some jacobs crackers and they ahd the large packets on special for 56p but the smaller packets were 1.34 cant believe they trick us this badlyReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0

Deeneice, I can relate to you with the ASDA thing. I'm not saying it's just them that do this but their offers are not what they seem!
PS: I used to live in that neck of the woods! :-)0 -
I think it's known as marketing.... if you take the time to look at other products in any number of soupermarkets product on 'offer' doens't always give you the best deal, same with large 'value' packs if items - sometimes the price per g or l is less for the smaller packs but so many people don't bother to check this and just grab in a hurry...it's the old saying 'a fool and their money are soon parted'Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Snap!! I used to shop at that very same Asda now I only go for fuel. What finished me off specifically was the patronising way a 'manager' spoke to me when I complained at the enormous Rollback poster suspended above the SP orange juice that I knew for a fact had jumped in price (again!). He was basically trying to tell me that they can charge what they like but trying to use lots of stupid jargon at the same time. 'I'm sorry madam, that is misleading, thank you for bringing it to our attention, I'll get it removed.' would have been more appropriate. What ever happened to customer service? But then they do offer to pack your shopping, even when you only have one item!:rotfl:
I'm now to be found in Lidl at Eastleigh, with a small top up in Sainsbury's for anything Lidl's don't sell.0
