Thanks for all the replies guys.

My OH doesn't want to move because of her family, we live in the town she's lived in all her life. I asked if she would consider moving into Leicester City Centre, only a 10 min drive from her family and the answer was still no though!

I can, or rather, won't, just go to the gym at the weekends. The gym is very important to me and I have to go at least 5/6 times a week.

I appreciate all the comments that have been made, its certainly given me a lot to think about!

Also remember that when you say you will get home at x time, thats ONLY if you leave work on time AND the trains run on time. Which from my experiences of commuting to London, is hardly ever!

Maybe start looking for new opportunities where you are now first.

If you really want to take the job in London, would you consider renting a room there Mon - Fri? It might make more sense than a 2 hour + commute every day. If you were up at 5 and didn't get home until 8, how much "quality time" would you actually have at home each evening before going to bed, 2 hours, tops?

Getting on in london often involves socializing after work

    Check the cost of gym,

Your relationship will get hit hard

no time at home in the week
    tired at the weekends
  • How old are you?

Have been doing 14 hour days for a few years and have to say I am not tired at the weekends and to the best of my knowledge my relationship hasnt suffered significantly - not enough to stop us getting married last year anyway. I do find that I am stricter with myself at leaving before 6:00 (though almost always work through lunch and still not always successful) than I was when I had a 30 minute commute.

Personally never been the sort to go out and party every night anyway but on average go out one night a week Mon-Thurs for a few hours and Friday-Sun are all fine to do whatever. The bigger constraint is last trains home etc.

If your current job isn’t safe, then go for it! Give it afew months, and if you don’t like the commute you can always look around for otherjobs nearer to you or with different hours.

You’ll get some extra money in the meantime, and you’ll havea higher starting salary for any subsequent positions you go for. Or you mayfind the commute is OK if you can get a seat in the train and get some work downon the way in so that you can leave on time each night.
Hope it goes well if you decide to go for it!
