Self employed / CRB check advice

Hi, just a quick question: I am a musician and want to do some performing for old people in care homes and residential homes (for which I would need to get a CRB check). However, the CRB say they can't give me a CRB check as I am self employed. Has anyone had a similar problem / any suggestions for how to get round this?

You dont get the CRB check done on yourself but the client/ employer you are going to be working for does.
If you were a Ltd then the Ltd could have a CRB check done on its employee (you).0 -

Who told you that you needed a CRB check? It should be necessary only if you are likely to be alone with residents with no member of staff present. If you are not going to have "unsupervised" access to vulnerable people, you shouldn't need a CRB check.
You could perhaps offer a police check instead.0 -
Thanks for the info. It was a care home that told me I needed a CRB check. Please could you tell me the difference between a CRB check and a police check? How would I go about getting one? (N.b. I'm not a Ltd)0

I help out in my local school as a parent helper and council has recently changed policy to say that I don't need a CRB check provided I am not given unsupervised access to kids. I would ask the Care Home to check that policies haven't changed.
