Has Anybody Ever Worked For Swinton Insurance

Just as the title says. I would appreciate any input please. I see they have they have a bit of a bad rep from a consumers point of view and Im wondering how this relates to working for them as an inbound sales advisor for somebody who has never worked in a call centre.

  • A friend of mine's wife worked there a few years back. Funnily enough, she was in the HR department. She seemed to enjoy working there but did complain quite a bit about the behaviour of some of the staff. Don't want that to put you off, it was more bad attitudes than anything over the top.
  • Thanks for your comments, I appreciate there is good and bad everywhere. Kinda curious as to how pressurised the upselling is. Recently having a short contract in a major retail store but not actually working for them I could not believe how much pressure the staff were under to upsell I could in no way do a job like that.
  • Can't help you on that I'm afraid, not got a clue.

Sorry, but that is the way work is now. Copmpanies are no longer prepared to carry low performing passengers.
  • There is big difference between under performing and willfully deceiving customers just to keep your job thats just wrong and it is what I witnessed on a daily basis. Also myself and my partner have falling victim to being sold something we did not buy from a major retailer. I would rather have a clear conscience. This is not just the way work is I'm sorry.
  • As a regulated industry with a lot of compliance issues around both advised and non-advised sales there is a strange amount of focus on up selling and cross selling.

Swintons are presumably advised sales and therefore the pressure can be more than if they were non-advised but there are more get outs in terms of the client not being fit for products which you wouldnt get in a retail store etc.

They do have a very bad reputation though and if you were considering making a career within the industry it would be better than having no industry experience but there are much better names to have on your CV

In a sales environment, one employee produces say £1000 in sales a day whilst another produces £2000. Meanwhile the sales staff at the competition are producing £2000 per day each. What would you expect the employer to do?

What has this dribble got to do with my original query. All I am asking for is a bit of friendly advice regarding working for a particular company. Thats it ! I not here for a debate on the intricacies of salesmanship. If you dont have anything useful to add then please dont.

The point is that you will have targets to meet in any of this type of role. If you consider that to be unbearable pressure you will be very unhappy.

Ok this is my last word on this. You obviously dont get my point. I have sales targets to meet when I work on behalf of major brands. I am quite happy to and enjoy meeting these targets and quite often get the highest sales for the campaign throughout the UK. There is pressure and its fine I can handle it.

My issue is when I enter retail stores and am flat out asked to lie to customers in order to make a sale or when I witness retail store staff miselling services without the customers knowledge. Not all sales is morally corrupt like this.
