All the figures so far...
Unemployment risen 48,000 to 2.67m.
Jobseekers increased by 6,900 to 1.6m.
Waiting on the depressing young person job figures.

Number of people IN employment is UP 60,000 as well, lest we forget its not all doom & gloom0

Better news on youth unemployment. The rate has edged down slightly to 22.2%. Better than going up!0

It must be people being kicked off other benefits.
Number of people economically active up, and inactive down.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
The changes are all within statistical noise. A headline rate change of <100,000 can't be measured accurately.
The ONS takes a survey. They don't count every unemployed person. If they did that it would take years for the figures to come out!0 -
This news is presently being cheered over on HPC. What an odious flock of vultures.
dude thats rich coming from you sibley/mr ree as last week you laughed at those poeple up north who lost their jobs.
any dudes who think the economy is turning a corner live in la la land
the condems just dont know how to get out of this mess. people are crying out for jobs while the dudes in government fiddle aboutMaidstone Prices - average reductions at 8.5% (£19,668) Feb 2012 - We thought the dudes were not allowed to drop prices?0 -
As someone who works in industry & commerce my view is that there isn't a shortage of jobs, but a mismatch between the skillsets that lie in the workforce and the needs of UK PLC.
In 4 out of the last 5 jobs I've been in, we were massively hamstrung by the inability to find suitably skilled people, and I'm not talking PHDs in rocket science but skills such as good telesales, web developers etc.
Without doubt the education system in the UK is utterly failing to equip folks with the necessary skills to support economic growth.0 -

Are there any statistics that show a breakdown of that 2.67m ?
For example:
1) Skills groups
2) Qualification levels
3) Timescales
4) Unemployable0 -
It will be interesting to see will the North/South divide be getting even greater,Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.
